About Vision Support
Vision Support is a local charity based in Chester covering Halton, Cheshire and North Wales. Our aim is to support people with a visual impairment helping them to remain as independent in their own homes as possible.
Independent Living Centre
In Halton we are based in the Independent Living Centre in Collier Street, where we have a Resource Centre which is open from Monday - Friday from 9.30 - 2.30. The Resource Centre Organisers are able to provide information on services available to people with a visual impairment, as well as demonstrate a wide range of equipment that is available for people to buy.
Training
The Independent Living Centre is also where IT is taught 3 days a week to people who are visually impaired. This is done using specially developed software to assist the user. Small classes of 2 or 3 people are taught at a time and our IT instructor is assisted by a team of volunteers.
Support
Our team of Rehabilitation Assistants is also based at the Independent Living Centre. Their role is to visit people in their homes, provide advice on every day living issues, help to complete benefit forms and provide social contact.
A Braille Group also meets at the Independent Living Centre along with one of our Social Groups. The other group outgrew the room they occupied so have had to move to different premises.
